E2C – Turning Trash Into Treasure

Perhaps one of Samui’s most innovative sustainability champions is Khun Dan Panipol Apichitsakul, co-founder of E2C (Education 2 Community) and the driving force behind The Sustainability Journey Samui. Dan’s work starts where most of us look away at the island’s mounting piles of “low-value” plastic waste. Instead of seeing a problem, he envisions opportunity: working alongside collectors, E2C sorts and transforms this waste into eco-bricks and recycled construction materials, turning what was once landfilled into the literal building blocks of the future.

Khun Dan’s working with local businesses, hotels, and schools has embedded sustainability deeper into Samui’s DNA with big plans for integrating new waste management technologies and community-driven action. The new Waste Centre in Namuang exemplifies this hands-on approach, creating a central hub for responsible sorting and recycling. Dan regularly hosts workshops about reducing single-use plastics and helps residents take small, practical steps to be greener at home, from separating household waste, to shopping smarter, to switching to refillable products. Collaborate with E2C and you’ll discover your household habits are part of Samui’s larger sustainability journey.
