Pickleball is currently one of the fastest-growing racket sports around the world, with a massive following in the USA, Australia, and across Asia. While it is just starting to take off in Thailand, the fever has officially landed on Samui! Even though we currently have just three courts on the island at Padel Samui in Plai Laem, the community is growing fast.
What is Pickleball? Think of it as a mash-up of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It is played on a smaller court with a perforated plastic ball and composite paddles. Because the court is smaller and the serve is underhand, it’s much easier on the joints than tennis, making it perfect for all ages and fitness levels.
Why is it so much fun? It’s incredibly social! The game is designed for long rallies and plenty of “kitchen” (that’s a real pickleball term!) chatter. It’s easy to learn but hard to master, meaning you’ll be having fun within your first ten minutes on the court.
Learn to Play: Newbie Pickleball
Ever watched a game and thought, “That looks fun… but I’d be terrible”? Perfect. The Pickleball Newbie sessions are strictly for those who have never played or are just starting out.
- When: Every Tuesday, from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM
- Cost: 150 THB per person for 90 minutes
- Details: Rackets are available to rent. Skill is not required, but laughing is highly encouraged!

Social Pickleball
If you know the rules and want a friendly, social game, join the club Social Pickleball sessions (level 2.5–3.5) on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, from 7:30am-9:30am.

Played on the same court as Pickleball, Skyball is an exciting alternative that uses 21″ strung rackets and high density foam balls to create a dynamic, fast-paced game that feels like a cross between tennis and pickleball.
