Koh Kraft by SOS

Koh Kraft by SOS is a new initiative for 2024, designed to teach local women valuable art and craft skills, such as machine sewing, hand sewing, macramé, and crochet, while helping them create a sustainable income. We identified a gap in income opportunities for some Thai women once the island re-emerged from the pandemic and employment returned. Based in Maenam, Koh Kraft offers a 12-lesson program over four weeks, where participants are paid while learning from our Koh Kraft volunteers.

This community collaborative project not only empowers women who cannot join the regular workforce due to circumstances—such as a lack of education or limited time due to family demands—but also partners with local businesses to upcycle fabric waste and excess. By rescuing fabric, clothing, and offcuts, we help reduce landfill on our island home. Already, tailors, clothing designers, and locals through Marketplace by SOS are donating fabric stocks to the project.

Hand sewing, macramé, and crochet pieces can be made at home by participants in their own time, and they will receive payment for all consignments. These handmade Koh Samui craft items will be sold through markets, hotels, resorts, and at Marketplace by SOS. You can even place an order soon!

Koh Kraft by SOS is a place where creativity thrives, friendships are formed, and new opportunities are created for those involved.

Whether you’re looking to donate time, resources, or simply wish to see what we’re doing, you’re welcome to join us and support this meaningful cause.
