Marketplace by SOS

Our little shop with a big heart

Always wanted to know what to do with something too good to throw away? Where to take that item be it clothing, household, or a decorative piece? Leaving Samui or moving over and need some things? Marketplace by SOS is a treasure trove of pre-loved items.

Our charity shop “Marketplace by SOS” accepts donations of clean clothing, shoes and household items!   It is Koh Samui’s only home for pre-loved goods, giving them a second act, and helping to raise funds for community outreach programs.

Operating since May 2021, our charity shop with a big heart accepts:

  • Clothing and shoes for babies, kids, women and men
  • Cookware, tableware, small household goods and linen
  • Handbags, jewellery and belts
  • Soaps and toiletries (new/unused)
  • Sporting goods
  • Toys, games, art & craft items

We are unable to accept computer equipment, DVD’s, electronics, flammable items, used toiletries, medicine, large items of furniture, and anything that one person cannot easily lift.

All funds raised from the resale of pre-loved items go towards our community initiatives.  15%-20% of clothing items donated are directed straight back to the community in need, both Thai and migrant families across the island, delivered by our Marketplace helpers. Our Marketplace by SOS has one full time staff, and relies on helpers each day to help sort, display and pack donations.

Home to Swap’n’Style and Coffee’n’Chat each last Friday of the month, and often offering workshops, this community space is a small shop with a big heart.

Marketplace is proud to be a Trash Hero Water Refill partner. Bring your reusable bottle and refill it for free while helping reduce single-use plastic waste.

Established in 2021

Our charity shop, the “Marketplace by SOS” was opened in 2021, yes we signed the lease during the pandemic. We knew there was demand on Samui for pre-loved goods, and we took a chance at being the place where items are given a second act – and it worked! In 2023 it was the largest contributor to our Community Outreach funding.

  • 10-15% of donated clothing goes straight out into the community (not sold)
  • Our team of helpers donate 25+ hours per week to help keep the store sorted, rotate stock and present all our beautiful donations to help them find new homes
  • 25-40 donors contribute pre-loved goods each month, either via the shop in person, our donation bins, or items are picked up by a volunteer
  • Everything sold through the shop makes an impact on our community. THB 200 helps buy a child school shoes, or THB 50 pays for two school lunches.

Our thanks to our Thai employees over the past 3 years: Khun Jezz, Khun Kung and now Khun Wan. To our painting ladies who designed our mural and bedazzled it, and for the upcycled furniture and fixtures (plus a few handy men). And to the Samui community who has donated to us every single month and to those who have bought items from us, thank you, we are grateful for you all.

The shop has hosted workshops and markets, and showcased Samui female talent through consignments – of candles, sewing items, jewelry and more.

The shop turned THREE in May 2024. We’re planning to be open more hours, be a ‘Community Space’ and the Head Quarters of SOS while always being a treasure trove of pre-loved goodness. We now have a coffee machine – stop by and enjoy a cuppa and a chat!
